MPS Market Trends – 11th Jan 2013

Other than the standard predictions for the new year, commentators have been slow to get up and running in 2013. However, NAPPS has scoured the industry for the latest, relevant comments and opinion effecting the MPS and document management industry.

We expect to have a full bulletin next week – Happy New Year.

The future of MPS? – Workflow

Understanding the activities and processes around the devices (workflow) is where the sustainable value can be found. As margin pressure continues to fuel the race to the bottom, those of us looking for a way to remain relevant rediscover the magic around the machine, not in the machine. It isn’t about machine functions or specifications—it’s improving the happenings before and after the device that matter now.

All your clients are engaged in workflow—you’re engaged with workflow, we are all in some sort of workflow process. It is everywhere, and ignoring it only makes you less relevant.

Recommendations when getting more versed in workflow:

1. Talk the talk. Learn everything you can about diagraming and discussing workflow. Check out the Internet (of course) and pick up whatever you can from anywhere. It isn’t all that difficult.

2. Walk the walk. Observe and document your workflow. Diagram your managed print services process from start to finish and share it with your prospects and clients.

3. Be the ball. Get in front of your existing clients and ask them how they conduct business. Ask them to describe how they perform a function in accounting. Then draw it out and be the expert.
